Dorothy Ruggiero, LMT

"I became interested in massage therapy in 1992 after having been involved in a motor vehicle accident. I went through the typical protocol of treatment for soft-tissue whiplash injury. After the medical care and short term of physical therapy, I explored chiropractic care and massage therapy. For me, the manual therapies were most effective in reducing my pain. I began studying massage therapy with the idea of helping others reduce pain caused by injury and stress."

Dorothy graduated from the American Institute of Massage & Hydrotherapy, located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in 1993 and immediately continued with additional studies including specialized therapeutic treatments for soft-tissue whiplash injuries, musculoskeletal imbalances, and sports massage. Through experience and ongoing education, Dorothy expands her practices to include a variety of natural techniques that facilitate stress reduction, pain relief, and balance. Massage therapists in Connecticut (and Florida) are required to pass a licensing exam and take continuing education courses in order to keep the license up to date.

Dorothy continued working in the travel industry until 2003 when she decided to resign and raise her family.  Inspired by the principles of Ayurveda, ancient holistic healing practices, she opened SeaStones Natural Therapies in 2003. With over 20 years of professional experience, Dorothy's primary goal has always been to provide a holistic approach to wellness. She continues to develop her understanding of holistic healing through courses and workshops that focus on prevention, balance, and health maintenance.

She incorporates various techniques and enhancements to her massage practices that flow with the needs of her clients. Holistic healing practices like heated stone massage, Reiki, Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Thai Herbal Medicine and Ayurveda, combined with traditional Western massage techniques, allow her to create a massage experience that is unique to each client.

“When I was working as a flight attendant I was always trying to find ways to stay healthy while traveling.  I have a passion for both travel and wellness and I wanted to provide a service for family, friends, associates and clients that would offer the opportunity to these things.  These days there is more awareness and I believe traveling can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. Getting away from day to day stress can help to rejuvenate a healthful outlook on life. That’s why I teamed up with an experienced travel company and created the Wellness Travel Network to provide wellness-inspired weekend getaways, vacations, group retreat/workshop packages.”
